Liner Notes

Animalien and I started this with a semi-autobiographic line swap expounding on how many people go to work dreading their jobs while daydreaming about that "perfect job," but in the end someone is out there doing that same job we dream about, wishing they were doing something else...

Lyrics

Well I'm an engineer and I make good cash
I graduated at the top of my class
I landed this job as design engineer
After 2 rounds of layoffs how long will we last?

Staring at this screen trying to fix this design
Sometimes it all feels like a waste of time
Makes me wish that I worked outside
Like the guys who fix the telephone lines...

[interlude]

So I'm working on the phone lines, calls nonstop
Although I need the overtime I wish they'd stop
I'd rather be a surgeon in the operating room
Taking on big problems like a lethal gunshot

Chorus:
I dream my dream of passion; work the dream I abhor
Every waking minute long for something more
But I've got to make a living just the same

You may think being a doctor is great
But I don't see you working this late
I'd prefer to live a much simpler life
Like a scuba instructor in a warmer state

Chorus:
I dream my dream of passion; work the dream I abhor
Every waking minute long for something more
But I've got to make a living just the same

Teaching scuba got really old
Couldn't keep up with bills and the bank foreclosed
So now I'm headed back to school
Seems engineering's the way to go

Staring at this screen trying to fix this design
Sometimes it all feels like a waste of time
