Liner Notes

For some reason when I read the lyrics to "Sunday Afternoon 5PM" by Michael Gutierrez-May I had a real urge to try to put it to music. This one turned out OK, I'm pretty critical of my vocal performance but I've always been a hesitant singer.

If Michael likes the way this turned out I'd like to add him as a formal collab, but I wanted to give him right of first refusal.

MGM: Permission granted, of course. These lyrics were inspired by the view outside my window on a Saturday afternoon right after I got out of work and started thinking, "What can I do for my next song?" Temps by the way have been more like in the 20's and 30's lately so I guess we got a little February thaw.

Update: Drums were really wonky on the first version so I redid this song, also adding a 2nd verse (hope I didn't overstep my bounds messing with the lyrics?) inspired by Michael's comment above about the temp dropping to 20-30.

Lyrics

Snow on the ground, temps are in the 40's
February marches on
Looking out from the inside of this small apartment
I am where I don't belong

It's a long way to travel to Virginia
I can't escape so I stay around
Keeping track of time as it passes by the hour
Listening to the church bell sound

5pm and five bells ring
It's kind of beautiful and right outside my door.
Snow and church bells make for pleasant decorations
Why would I want for more?

Still looking out, temp's down to 20 or 30
Coldest days I ever saw
Still snow on the ground, so I stay warm in my small apartment
Must have been a February thaw

5pm and five bells ring
It's kind of beautiful and right outside my door.
Snow and church bells make for pleasant decorations
Why would I want for more?
