Liner Notes

Sometimes the simplest activities can inspire pretty powerful emotions, that was the case with this song.

My wife and I were walking on a frozen lake with our snowshoes, something we do quite often actually, and during the walk I was struck with how much she meant to me so I wrote this song to capture the experience.

Lyrics

Stepping out with you
On a frozen winter lake
Had to get outside
Just to try our new snowshoes

It’s been a real cold winter
Or so they say here in Wisconsin
Today’s the warmest day
We’ve seen in quite some time

And as we walked on top
Of this frozen winter lake
It made me think about
What I’d do if you fell through?

Then it occurred to me
Some would say that we were crazy
Also occurred to me
That with you my life’s complete

[strings interlude]

Walking along with you
On a frozen winter lake
You’d never guess the thoughts
Inspired by these snowshoes

About the things we love
And should never take for granted
And all the things we’d lose, if we don’t stop
Worrying about their loss

And as we walk along
Atop this frozen winter lake
You turn and smile at me
And this winter seems less cold

Smiling back at you
I can’t imagine life without you
But just a year ago
I’d never even heard your name

Well we’ve all got our silly worries
And sometimes I lose my mind
Thinking of what life would be without you…
Without your snowshoes
Walking along with mine

[interlude]

Stepping out with you
On a frozen winter lake
Had to get outside
Just to try our new snowshoes

It’s been a real cold winter
Or so they say here in Wisconsin
Today’s the warmest day
We’ve seen in quite some time
