Liner Notes

This tune was written to celebrate the birth of Marissa Leigh McIntosh, daughter of my friends Jon and Shanna.

The lyrics to this song came to me almost instantly upon getting word of Marissa's birth, but once I got to the studio to start composing I found myself making some adjustments to the verse with my collaborator / muse Molly, and the bridge was mostly her work.

I initially wanted this to be a lullaby but couldn't make that vibe work so, instead, this song became a nice, sentimental tribute to a new life!

Lyrics

‘Round quarter to one last Sunday
A new child came along
6 pounds 13 ounces
And 18 inches long

Momma was exhausted but
Happy as could be
Daddy glowed with pride as he held
Up his Marissa Leigh

Marissa Leigh
You stole our hearts in an instant
Marissa Leigh
Darling Marissa Leigh

Will she be a doctor?
A teacher or head of state?
Will she find the cure for cancer?
Be a musician or poet laureate?

Wide-eyed with amazement
So much to see
But nothing’s quite like the sight of
Their perfect Marissa Leigh

Marissa Leigh
You stole our hearts in an instant
Marissa Leigh
Darling Marissa Leigh

Listen to the lull as your momma sings gently
Lullabies to inspire your baby dreams
Precious little babe so peacefully sleeping
Precious gift of joy Marissa Leigh
