Emergency First Response

At AquaMunkee Scuba, the majority of our Emergency First Response students enroll to complete the prerequisite for the PADI Rescue Diver course.

However, the Emergency First Response isn’t just a scuba prerequisite, it provides vital skills helpful to anyone who could end up in a situation where life-saving skills could make a difference for friends, loved ones, or even perfect strangers.

Emergency First Response Course Details

Through a combination of independent study and skill practice with an instructor, you’ll build the confidence and skills to provide basic emergency care.

The Emergency First Response Course consists of 2 phases:

  1. Knowledge Development
  2. Classroom and Hands-On Training

These phases are detailed in the sections below.

First Aid Skills

1. Knowledge Development

The Primary and Secondary Care Manual and video on DVD preview emergency scenarios and provide step-by-step skill demonstrations. By reading the manual and watching the DVD you will be prepared for your classroom and hands-on session.

To reinforce what you learn in the course you will also receive the Emergency First Response Care at a Glance card. This card is a quick-reference guide for emergency situations. Designed to fit in a glove compartment or backpack, the Care at a Glance card is an important component for any first-aid or disaster preparedness kit.

Both your manual and the quick-reference card are included in the course price

2. Classroom and Hands-On Training

Although emergency response training is a very serious topic, the Emergency First Response approach focuses on giving you the skills that can mean the difference between life and death without making the class as serious as life and death. This serves two purposes - it makes the experience of learning more enjoyable and it also makes you much more likely to retain the information and be able to effectively apply what you’ve learned when you need it most.

In that vein, your Emergency First Response training will teach serious medical emergency response skills in an upbeat, positive environment. From the realistic hands-on sessions and scenarios that make you really think about the real-world application of your training you will gain the confidence to be ready to help in an emergency.

What you will learn in the EFR Primary and Secondary Care Course:

  1. Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR and rescue breathing
  2. Prevention and treatment for shock
  3. Spinal injury management
  4. Use of barriers to reduce disease transmission risk
  5. Basic first aid and first aid kit considerations
