1. Knowledge Development

The knowledge development phase starts with your independent study of the Deep Diver manual, as well as the optional Deep Diver video which complements and reinforces the manual.

Each chapter in the manual includes a knowledge review section to demonstrate your understanding of the material. Those knowledge reviews will be used to direct a classroom refresher session prior to completing the dives in open water.

Although there are a few options available, for most students AquaMunkee Scuba will cover the knowledge development section using the following approach:

1. Independent, Self-Paced Study at Home
2. Completion of All Knowledge Reviews in Your Manual
3. Classroom Session to Discuss Knowledge Reviews
4. Additional Explanation / Question-and-Answer Session

On average, the entire home study portion of the Knowledge Development phase can be completed in 1-2 weeks at a leisurely pace.

2. Open Water Dives

With your knowledge reviews completed, it's time to get real experience in a deep diving environment; most commonly Lake Wazee or a Lake Michigan charter dive.

During your open water dives you will learn and practice the following techniques:

  1. Deep dive techniques for dives to 18-40 meters/60-130 feet
  2. Deep scuba diving equipment considerations
  3. Physiological impact of deep diving on motor skills & judgement
  4. Experience in planning, organizing and making at least four deep dives under the supervision of your PADI Instructor
